The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification is designed for individuals who wish to become certified Emergency First Aiders in the workplace. This course is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to undertake security courses as a valid Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is required before you can enrol in most of the security officer or door supervisor training programs. The course itself is six hours long and focuses on practical, hands-on learning to help you become proficient in dealing with a wide range of emergency situations.
What You Will Learn
First Aid and How to Assess an Incident
You will learn how to assess the scene of an incident quickly and effectively, ensuring you can prioritise treatment for the casualty while keeping yourself and others safe. This unit teaches you how to recognise the severity of an emergency and how to make quick decisions under pressure.
First Aid Skills and CPR
This section covers the fundamental first aid skills necessary to help someone who is injured or unwell. You will be trained in basic life-saving techniques such as performing CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) in case of a cardiac arrest emergency.
Providing First Aid to a Casualty Who’s Choking
You will learn the techniques for helping someone who is choking, including the Heimlich manoeuvre and other techniques for clearing a blocked airway safely.
Dealing with External Bleeding and Hypovolemic Shock
In this section, you will learn how to control external bleeding through methods such as direct pressure and bandaging. You will also learn how to recognise and manage hypovolemic shock, a life-threatening condition caused by severe blood loss.
Course Delivery and Assessment:
The Ofqual-regulated Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is delivered through a combination of classroom learning and practical exercises, with a focus on hands-on experience. The course lasts six hours and will be delivered in a single day. You’ll learn through demonstrations, role-playing scenarios, and practical sessions designed to ensure you are confident in your ability to handle emergency situations.
Assessment will be conducted through continuous observation during practical sessions and a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course. Successful completion will award you with the Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
Course Requirements:
Prerequisite: No prior first aid experience is necessary, but a valid Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is required to enrol in most security training courses.
Age Requirement: Must be 16 or over.
Language Requirement: A basic understanding of English (reading, writing, and speaking).
Full Attendance: The course requires full participation and attendance for the duration of the six-hour training.
